2 HOUR THROWING TASTER | BEGINNERS

£60.00

Two Hour Class for Absolute Beginners - Throwing on the wheel

In this fun introductory class you will become familiar with the potters wheel and learn what it is like to have a go at throwing. All of our teachers are professional potters who are also experienced teachers, you will be in the best hands possible.

You will begin by weighing up your clay balls, then watch a demonstration by your teacher to display the techniques needed to ‘center’ your clay and how to ‘pull’ up the walls of your pots. We will also teach you all about the varying array of potters tools and their uses, all of which we we have available to you in our beautiful studio. Sitting down at your own dedicated potters wheel, you will then have a go at throwing a bowl, mirroring the techniques your teacher will have shown you. It will be messy, wobbly and much harder than many can have imagined!

We aim for a more sustainable approach in our taster courses. Clay and many of the materials that potters use have to be excavated from quarries and have an environmental impact. We therefore encourage only the best work to be pushed through the firing processes since it is a material that can be reused and recycled infinite amount of times up until the point it is fired. You can learn from cutting through your pieces to analyse how best to improve your techniques. If you wish to keep one of your works, each pot kept will be £10. Half of that cost then goes to charitable organisations, often in Cornwall where much of our clay comes from as a way to given back to the same environment our materials are extracted from.

This class is an amazing way to let you know if Throwing on the Wheel is something you may wish to pursue with longer courses, it is also just a lovely way to come and have some fun and experience this amazing material.

Each attendee will have their own dedicated potters wheel and there are a maximum of 10 people who attend each class.

All classes will take place in the pottery at:  11-12 Crown Works, Temple Street, London, E26QQ

Pots will be ready usually within three weeks, but sometimes longer depending on firing schedules. You will be notified by email when your pots are ready. We ask that you pick up or arrange for your pots to be delivered to you (for an additional fee) within one month of the original pick up email being sent out. If your pieces have not been picked up or sent within this time-frame then we regret that we will have had to give to our local community, as we are so limited on shelf space.

A welcome email with further instructions about what to expect before your class is sent around a week before your class commences. This email will be sent to the email provided at booking.

We really hope that you enjoy your workshop with us!
