FORM AND SURFACE WITH TIM LAKE | INTERMEDIATE

£280.00

Taught by Guest Potter Tim Lake

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of August from 11:00 to 17:00

This two-day workshop offers students an in-depth exploration of the creative processes and techniques of practicing ceramicist Tim Lake, who will share insights into his personal approach to form, surface, and material.

Throughout the workshop, attendees will be introduced to a wide range of making techniques, including wheel throwing with a focus on diverse forms, as well as turning, faceting, and stamping. The course will also examine a variety of surface textures and distinctive textural treatments.

In addition to wheel work, the workshop will cover handbuilding techniques such as slab and strap-built bowls, trays, platters, and pressed plates. Special attention will be given to the use of custom and handmade tools, many of which are crafted or adapted by the artist.

Participants will work with clay bodies that have texture and tooth, ideal for surface experimentation. The course will also explore the use of white slip for Hakeme-style brushwork and finger-wiping techniques, encouraging a tactile engagement with surface and form.

This workshop is ideal for ceramicists seeking to expand their technical repertoire, deepen their material understanding, and explore innovative approaches to both functional and expressive ceramic work.
