We have designed this intensive programme, taking place five days a week (Monday to Friday) over two weeks in the month of July, to build an excellent technical base in ceramics and develop each student’s confidence in the direction they wish to take their practice. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course offers a comprehensive and hands-on approach to pottery.
Guided by a selection of our incredibly skilled instructors, you’ll start with all the fundamentals of throwing before progressing to specialised techniques. You can see the Full Schedule Here.
Throughout the dates your course covers, you will also benefit from a 15 per cent discount on all other courses taking place during your time at the studio, thereby allowing you to pick and choose from any of our weekend masterclasses and other ongoing courses you wish to explore.
We know that this is going to be a popular course, and there are only 10 places available, ensuring the best teaching ratio for students. As such, bookings are now open.
The course includes the firing of 20 of your best works and in total you will receive 60 hours of expert tuition.

General Class Information…
Running during the month of July from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm Monday to Friday.
The price covers all materials, glazes and firings of 20 works. You can also keep further works at £10 an additional piece.

REMINDER OF T&C’s For Foundation Courses
* If given 20 or more days notice we can either reschedule, refund or generate a gift code for rebooking your class.
* If given 19 days or less notice due to illness of any kind, or for any other reason, we cannot reschedule or refund. There are no exceptions to this, so please do not ask or pressurise our staff.
* In the scenario of 19 days or less notice of you not being able to attend, your seat always remains yours to give to a friend or family member to attend.
* We can only take one individual for the duration of a course, not an array of people on different sessions, ie only one person can attend all or some of the sessions.
* If you know ahead of time that you won’t be able to make one of the sessions, please let us know in advance so we don’t keep the class waiting for your arrival
* We regret we will not be able to replace or rearrange missed sessions. Please do not ask us to make exceptions and please understand we cannot accommodate everyones diary changes and sudden change of circumstances.

These are our third and fourth Foundation Courses we will have run at Crown Works and both the other Foundations have been a sold out success. Building on previous foundations we have designed this intensive programme, taking place five days a week (Monday to Friday) over the month of August or September 2026, to build an excellent technical base in ceramics and develop each student’s confidence in the direction they wish to take their practice. Guided by a selection of our incredibly skilled instructors, you’ll start with all the fundamentals of handbuilding and throwing before progressing to specialised techniques such as making jars, oval forms, plates, and complex vessels such as teapots. Each technique will be paired with an instructor that will bring their own expertise to each discipline, and we have carefully constructed the programme to ensure you will progress rapidly in both thinking and skill level.
The course also includes an introduction to glaze chemistry, where you’ll mix your own glazes, deepening your understanding of surface finishes, firing temperatures, kiln loading, and maintenance.
You will also gain a thorough insight into the workings of a busy studio, learning how to reclaim, pug, and manage your workflow, as well as becoming aware of the suppliers we most recommend. There will also be workshops on how to price your work and the differing avenues in which you could exhibit and sell your own work moving forwards.
