These courses run once a week for two hours over a 8 week period. All the courses are suitable for ALL levels including beginner - bar those marked as Intermediate, which is dedicated to those who wish to further their skills and have reached the needed standard.
The first three sessions will be focused on the basics of throwing on the wheel, beginning with how to centre and pull a cylinder and moving on to how to stretch the clay into bowls and other complex forms. On the fourth session you will begin to throw larger amounts of clay and start to hone the techniques you have so far learnt. Your fifth class will be shown how to ‘belly out’ and ‘collar in’. Your sixth session you can begin to choose what you would like to throw and the weights you feel most comfortable with. In the seventh session you will learn how to turn the bases of all the best work you have made over the last six weeks, your pots will then be bisque fired. Returning for your eight and final session of the course, you will be able to glaze your work in a selection of our ten house glazes.
Each attendee has their own dedicated potters wheel and there is a maximum of 10 people who attend each class. Expect to keep anywhere between 8-10 pieces, depending on what happens when you are throwing! If you would like to keep more than 10 pieces, we charge an extra £10 a pot.
INTERMEDIATE level courses are for those who wish to enhance their skill in a specific area and already have some experience working on the wheel. Please contact Giulietta@crownworkspottery.com to book mentioning the date you wish to book and your level of experience - we advise that students who are joining feel comfortable centering 1kg of clay and pulling walls evenly.
