THOWN AND ALTERED KURINUKI | INTERMEDIATE

£245.00

Saturday 25th and 26th May - 11:00 - 17:00 - Taught by Joseph Ludkin

[Please contact lucy@crownworkspottery.com in advance to confirm that you are of a sufficient standard to join this course, Thank you]

General Class Information…

Kurinuki means ‘To Hollow’ and is the traditional Japanese technique of carving objects such as cups, bowls, vases, and boxes etc. from a block of clay.  Kurinuki techniques are fantastic for creating unique forms and rugged, tactile surface textures.

On this course potter Joseph Ludkin will introduce you to the wonderfully meditative process of using Kurinuki techniques to make a range of objects. Joseph will then go on to show you ways in which Kurinuki techniques can be incorporated into wheel throwing by introducing you to some of the ‘Kurinuki with a twist’ methods he uses in his own work.

You will be guided through the workshop with practical demonstrations and one to one tuition over two days.

We will be making;

Hand built traditional Japanese tea cups

A hand built Lidded box

Thrown and altered vessels (vases, bowls etc.) depending on individual throwing skill level.

Price includes all materials, glazes and firings. You are able to keep up to 7 pots per person and if you have made more that you love, you can pay for additional pots at £10 per piece.

We regret that if you have not picked up your pots within one month of the original pick up email being sent out, then we will have had to dispose of the pots as we are so limited on shelf space.

Any questions please email Lucy at lucy@crownworkspottery.com
