Week 1: Core Throwing & Surface Design
Focus: Introduction to the wheel, fundamental forms, and surface decoration.
Monday – Introduction to Cylinders & Bowls - Taught by Pippa Harrison
Learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel, beginning with cylinder forms and progressing to bowls. Perfect for beginners or those refreshing their skills.Tuesday– Foundations in Throwing Larger Forms - Taught by Pippa Harrison
Continue throwing practice with a focus on refining form, improving symmetry, and developing consistency in basic shapes.Wednesday – Throwing Practice & Trimming - Taught by Pippa Harrison
Build on previous days with trimming techniques and feedback on your early pieces. Emphasis on developing rhythm and control.Thursday – Plate Making - Taught by Andrea Roman
Learn to throw and shape flatware, tackling common challenges like warping and rim strength. Explore both wheel-thrown and slab-built methods.Friday– Plates & Slip Trailing Decoration - Taught by Andrea Roman
Finalise plate forms and experiment with surface decoration using slip trailing—a technique that adds texture and design.
Week 2: Functional Forms – Jugs & Bottles
Focus: Intermediate forms and precision throwing.
Monday – Jug Forms - Taught by Clare Spindler
Learn to throw basic jug forms with larger weights.Tuesday– Jug Forms Continued with Pulling Handles - Taught by Clare Spindler
Develop awareness of form and function focusing on spouts and balance and tntroduction to pulling handles and attaching them to jug forms..Wednesday – Oval Forms - Taught by Ervin Cirikovic
Introduction to altered forms on the wheel including oval dishes and square trays.Thursday – Oval Forms Continued - Taught by Ervin Cirikovic
Friday – Oval Forms Continued - Taught by Ervin Cirikovic
Focus on refining and completing forms.
