THE MOON JAR with JAGO POYNTER

THE MOON JAR with JAGO POYNTER
Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September - 11:00-17:00 both days
This workshop invites intermediate throwers to explore the iconic form of the Moon Jar under the guidance of ceramicist Jago Poynter. Known for its generous proportions and ethereal presence, the Moon Jar is a masterclass in balance and joinery.
Over the course of this intensive session, Jago will lead you through the technical process of throwing two large, open bowls in stoneware clay. You will learn the precision required to ensure both halves mirror each other perfectly in diameter and weight, creating a seamless marriage when inverted and joined.
Jago will demonstrate his specific approach to managing the structural integrity of stoneware, focusing on the refined "waist" where the two forms meet. This class is designed for those comfortable with the wheel who are looking to scale up their work and master the art of multi-part construction.
By the end of the workshop, you will have thrown the components for a classic Moon Jar, gaining a deeper understanding of volume, symmetry, and the quiet strength of high-fired stoneware.
